Scrap King Florida Invests in High-Performance Metal Recovery

Scrap King, based in Florida, is one of the state’s premier scrap metal recycling operations. Open seven days a week, they serve the entire state buying, processing, and exporting scrap directly to global steel mill consumers. Renowned for tackling what others can’t, Scrap King specialises in oversized, overweight, and difficult-to-process scrap.

Driven by an eco-conscious philosophy, Scrap King places sustainability at the heart of everything they do, prioritising reuse over resource extraction and minimising environmental impact through efficient, modern practices. As part of their continued investment in operational excellence, Scrap King partnered with Magnapower to enhance their non-ferrous metal recovery by integrating three new Eddy Current Separator (ECS) lines into their facility.

The Challenge

Scrap King’s ambitious setup, built around a single grind line, is unique in that there is no use of a shredder.  The company processes an unpredictable material mix of heavy and irregular scrap.  Their goal was to increase recovery efficiency without overhauling their existing system. The new equipment needed to:

  • Integrate seamlessly with the trommel-based sorting line
  • Handle mixed and variable scrap types reliably
  • Support continuous, high-throughput processing
  • Withstand Florida’s challenging climate, especially frequent rainfall
  • Maintain uptime in a demanding environment

Importantly, the ECS lines were an addition, not a replacement—meant to amplify performance without disrupting existing operations.

The Solution

Magnapower delivered three Eddy Current Separators, each selected to meet Scrap King’s unique processing requirements:

Each unit is equipped with a vibratory feeder and rare earth top fed drum magnet, providing controlled material flow and effective ferrous separation across all size fractions — large, medium, and fine — as defined by Scrap King’s trommel system.

To maintain efficiency, the ECS 1500 Superfines, which processes the finest material as small as 1-2mm, is fitted with a protective cover to prevent moisture ingress from any tropical rain falls and safeguard performance.

Key features of Magnapower’s Eddy Current Separators:

Magnapower’s Eddy Current Separators are purpose-built to deliver exceptional separation performance, long-term reliability, and straightforward maintenance — even in the most demanding environments. Features include:

  • Adjustable rotor speeds and splitter positions for operational flexibility
  • Rare Earth Neodymium magnets for sustained magnetic intensity
  • Sealed belt and frame to prevent material ingress
  • Motorised drive drum with internal bearings for long-lasting operation
  • Rugged carbon fibre rotor cover for wear resistance
  • Quick maintenance access via hinged doors and simple belt change system
  • Elevated intensity and frequency of the Superfines ECS, for processing ultra-fine material down to 1–2mm with precision

The Result

Since installation, Scrap King has seen strong performance improvements across the board:

  • Increased throughput and smoother process flow
  • Higher recovery rates across all size fractions
  • Improved export readiness for global distribution
  • Consistent, reliable operation even in Florida’s weather conditions

“From day one, Magnapower impressed us with their responsiveness and technical insight. The installation went smoothly, and their support throughout has been first-class. We’re already looking forward to future projects.”
